How to recover forgotten Windows password

Creating a strong password to protect your computer from hacker is essential, especially in these days.If you share your computer to your family or your friends, you also need to create user acounts for them for securty. In these cases you may lost your password suddenly when you go back from bussiness or a trip as the password is too complicated for you to remember.

Forgetting windows password is a common problem when travelling our computer. You need to learn some effective tips about how to recover your computer if you forgot Windows password.

Tip 1: Reseting Windows password with default admin account

When we install Windows, it builts a default administrator account. Knowing the default password would be very useful if we have forgotten our admin password, usually this password is blank.

Start the computer normally, when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press "ctrl"+"alt"+"del" keys twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.

Tip2: Reseting Windows password from the command prompt

Start system and press F8 key when Windows is starting up. Then select Safe Mode with Command Prompt and enter. Choose Administrator,the default password may be blank if you don't set the default administrator password before.Then you will enter into doc Command as following.

Type " net user net user xxx 12345 /add " (xxx is the locked accout name and 123456 is the new password set on this account).Then you will see the Command Completed Successfully.

Note :The above tips only used in the situation that you did not set the Administrator password.What if you have set an Administrator password before?No panic,see the following tips.

Tip 3: Using Windows reset disk to recover the password.

Windows allow you to create a password reset disk which enables you to reset your password without much hassle. The problem with this option is that you have to create the reset disk before the password is lost. You can find a description of how to create a password reset disk here.

Tip 4: Using freeware Ophcrack to reset the Windows password

It is an open-source password cracker. The technology it uses to recover forgotten Windows password is called "rainbow tables" and was described by Philippe Oechslin in Making a Faster Cryptanalytic Time-Memory Trade-Off. A rough way to describe this technique is to say that tables of possible hashes are precomputed so that you can iteratively compare the windows hashes to precomputed bits and piece together the hash and its value more quickly than brute-force guessing.
